Dave Wheaton

I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as quick as I could. I'm originally from Battle Creek, Michigan (home of Tony the Tiger). I've got two kids who take up most of my time out of the office, but when I get "me time", I'm either taking in some live music or a sporting event. Since relocating, I also fell in love with the Texas music scene. I've been lucky enough to be nominated for DJ of the Year 4 straight years by the Academy of Texas Music, and was the 2009 recipient of the Academy's Palmwood Award. I'm a huge sports fan, and my loyalties are with the Michigan Wolverines, Chicago White Sox and (sorry) the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Dave Meets John – Abilene Subway Employee and Classical Guitarist

I was out with my son, enjoying a sandwich at Subway at the end of their Saturday lunch rush. As we were polishing off our $5 footlong and getting ready to hit the road, I couldn't help but notice a small orange amp at one of the tables behind me. So, we stuck around to find out what the heck was going on.

Dave Puts Shay’s iPhone Speaker Made From a Toilet Paper Roll to a Product Challenge

I saw Shay's video about how to make an iPhone speaker out of a roll of toilet paper, and how you can amplify your music with a couple of scores from an X-ACTO knife. I'm a conspiracy theorist by nature, so I decided to put Shay's toilet paper speaker to the test.

American Idol Contestant Briston Maroney Covers The Rolling Stones ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want’

Every once in a while, a contestant comes on American Idol that has me thinking they've got a chance to do something special with their talent. I thought that when I saw a 15-year old kid covering a 40-year old Rolling Stones song, and making it cool.

Red Fang Perform ‘Blood Like Cream’ Live on Letterman

I grew up in a time when it was very rare to see a metal band showcase their talents on network television. It's a little less rare now, but I still think it's cool as hell when one of my favorite bands gets a chance to rock for a mainstream audience. That happy feeling rushed over me when I saw Red Fang was the musical guest on The Late Show with David Letterman.
