Dave Wheaton

I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as quick as I could. I'm originally from Battle Creek, Michigan (home of Tony the Tiger). I've got two kids who take up most of my time out of the office, but when I get "me time", I'm either taking in some live music or a sporting event. Since relocating, I also fell in love with the Texas music scene. I've been lucky enough to be nominated for DJ of the Year 4 straight years by the Academy of Texas Music, and was the 2009 recipient of the Academy's Palmwood Award. I'm a huge sports fan, and my loyalties are with the Michigan Wolverines, Chicago White Sox and (sorry) the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Watch This Skydiver Fall 8,000 Feet Without a Parachute — and Survive

I'm not a skydiver, and I doubt I ever will be. But people who do parachute from thousands of feet up in the sky have my respect. It's scary stuff. You hear about skydivers falling to earth without a parachute to meet with terrible injuries or death. But this 51-year old dentist not only managed to survive his freefall to earth, he walked away with no more than a few bruises! Chalk it up to clean living, I suppose.

Dave Discovers that Rocker John Mellencamp Was a Country Music Artist 3 Decades Ahead of His Time

I was recently taking a cyber-stroll down memory lane, watching some of my favorite music videos on YouTube. I don't tend to dwell on how old I am too often, but when I do, I always seem to make interesting discoveries as the past relates to present day. This time, I discovered that rock singer John Mellencamp's 30-year old songs would make for great country music today.

Merle Haggard and Randy Rogers Band to Co-Headline ‘Outlaws & Legends Music Fest’ March 22 and 23 [UPDATED]

Many have wondered if it would even be possible to match the star power of the 2nd Annual 'Outlaws & Legends Music Fest' this past March. With the announcement of country legend Merle Haggard and the Randy Rogers Band to an already stacked lineup for the 2013 show, it's safe to say that the self-proclaimed "biggest 1-day, 1-stage event in Texas" just got bigger. This year's event will benefit the Ben Richey Boy's Ranch.

After a Seven Year Break from Working Out, Dave Finds the Motivation to Join a Gym

I've been telling myself for several weeks that it's time to start taking better care of myself and get back into a workout routine. I suppose my excuses dried up, and the reasons to get back into shape finally won out. So yesterday, I decided to make the time, and committed to joining a gym. This morning was the first time I've worked out since 2006.

Being a White Sox, Red Wings and Michigan Sports Fan in Abilene is Challenging

It's easy to be a fan of the hometown team. I know, because until 2006 my son and I were lucky enough to have our favorite teams around our hometown of Battle Creek, Michigan showing on my TV regularly. And I would be able to go see a game in person from time to time. Now that I've moved to Abilene, I'm left out of the loop. I can't make a day trip to see my favorite teams anymore. Regional sports teams like the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, Aggies and Longhorns, and even the Dallas Stars are easy to come across on TV in Abilene, but not my White Sox, Red Wings and Wolverines.
