I have a son who is 12, and he asked me one of those difficult questions the other day. “Dad, can I get a Facebook profile?”. I was unprepared. I told him I would think about it and let him know. That bought me some time to ponder the question: “What is the appropriate age for a kid to have a Facebook profile?”
I have a lot of family and friends who are planning to visit Abilene for the first time. Of course, they’re coming to visit our new baby and the rest of the family, but I want to make sure they get a chance to enjoy some of the Abilene culture.
I remember when I was a kid, my house had one phone. It was mounted to the wall in the kitchen. Rotary dial, with an actual “hook” where the handset rested when not in use. Mom, dad, and seven kids shared this single, immobile phone. No call-waiting, no caller I.D., no answering machine, and no privacy.
A new report released has shown that the economy in Abilene has been growing quite a bit. It’s been a full year of growth, as a matter of fact. And much of the credit for the economy growth is given to consumer spending.
A few days ago, I asked you what you think is the right age for a child to have a cell phone. Thanks to everyone who shared their thoughts, both on the radio and online. The responses were great, and there were some very strong opinions shared.
I was shopping with my 12 year old son at the Mall of Abilene a while back. Near the main entrance, we saw a small, maybe 5 year old boy, having what appeared to be an epic meltdown. With a mom holding the boy by the hand, the child screaming and trying his best to wiggle away to freedom. We’ve all witnessed this situation, right?
The Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene will host a special ceremony honoring real-life heroes in the Big Country this Memorial Day. This commemoration is open to veterans and all those who support them.
My wife recently posted a photo of her grandparents on Facebook. It was taken at their surprise 50th anniversary party, and she typed the message, “My mamaw and papaw! Aren’t they cute? 50 years together!! How do people do it??”. What a great question.
In this day where the divorce rate doesn’t allow for a lot of 50th anniversaries, good advice on a lasting marriage and strong relationship is harder to come by. So I decided to ask those who have stood the test of time, and share their advice.
