‘Green Room’ Red Band Trailer: None of This Ends Well
The latest red band trailer for the intense new thriller Green Room is here, and don’t you dare underestimate that I-word — the latest effort from Blue Ruin director Jeremy Saulnier is incredibly, unnervingly intense. And not the kind of in-your-face intensity you’ve become familiar with in your average action-thriller. This movie is a master-class in creating and sustaining tension, and for all the gory details, there’s a weird elegance to the film’s pacing and tone. You can get a hint of that in the new trailer, though you may want to wait and experience it for yourself in the theater.
‘Captain America: Civil War’ Promo Revisits the Emotional Journey to a Superhero War
It’s hard not to think that Marvel’s latest promo for Captain America: Civil War was inspired by the fan-made “Road to Civil War” super-cut from a couple of weeks ago. Like that video, the official “The Past Is Prelude” teaser takes us through the evolution of Tony Stark and Steve Rogers, from their first solo films all the way through Avengers: Age of Ultron and into Civil War. It’s much shorter than that fan-made super-cut, but it still packs an emotional punch.
‘Blood Father’ Trailer: Mel Gibson Is Tatted Up and Ready to Shoot All the Bad Guys
Blood Father is not a very good movie title, but there could be something to this new thriller starring Mel Gibson as a tattoo artist / biker badass / former convict / loving father. The first trailer offers a narrative familiar to anyone who’s seen a Liam Neeson action flick (and its many imitators), but Gibson’s wacky character description combined with a few shots seemingly lifted from Mad Max: Fury Road make Blood Father seem a bit more interesting than your average Red Box rental.
Erik Bauersfeld, Voice of Admiral Ackbar in ‘Star Wars,’ Has Died at 93
You may not immediately recognize the name Erik Bauersfeld, but you are undoubtedly familiar with his most famous line. The actor was the voice of Admiral Ackbar in Return of the Jedi, helping to popularize the alien’s signature phrase, “It’s a trap!” Bauersfeld has passed away at the age of 93, and though he’ll be remembered most for his role in Star Wars, the actor also worked with great directors like Guillermo del Toro and Steven Spielberg.
‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Summons a Four Horsemen Featurette Loaded With New Footage
The X-Men universe’s latest baddie may be the biggest — and oldest — of them all, and as noted by Rose Byrne’s Moira MacTaggert, he’s always got a little extra help in the form of four followers, known as the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (clever). Joining the ancient mutant villain’s team are Magneto, Storm, Angel and Psylocke, all profiled in the latest featurette for X-Men: Apocalypse, which offers a bunch of new footage from the upcoming film.
‘The Lost City of Z’ Trailer: Charlie Hunnam and Robert Pattinson Head Into the Jungle
James Gray (The Immigrant) has been developing a film based on David Grann’s best-selling non-fiction book The Lost City of Z for a long, long time. Brad Pitt was originally set to star in the harrowing drama, and his Plan B production banner remained on board even though he eventually dropped out. Now starring Charlie Hunnam and Robert Pattinson, the first trailer for The Lost City of Z has arrived, offering a sneak peek at one man’s daring expedition into the Amazon to commune with a primitive tribe.
‘Deadpool’ Will Mouth Off on Blu-ray and DVD in May
Following its record-breaking and pleasantly surprising run at the box office, Deadpool is getting ready to invade your home on DVD and Blu-ray this May. We won’t get an unrated director’s cut of the Merc With a Mouth’s solo outing, and although bonus feature details are not yet available, you can go ahead and pre-order your very own copy of the anti-superhero’s hit film right now. As in, right this moment. You go do that. I’ll wait here.
Rumor: New ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ Character Names Revealed
James Gunn has made it clear that he’s no longer responding to rumors regarding Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, so don’t expect the director to confirm or deny the latest report, which may reveal the names of three new characters. Take it with the usual grain of salt, but given how wild and weird the Guardians corner of the Marvel universe is, these names all sound fairly plausible.
‘Alice Through the Looking Glass’ Trailer: Alice Battles Time, Literally
Alice Through the Looking Glass is one of the more curious sequel developments in recent years. Tim Burton’s CGI / live-action Wonderland hybrid (okay, the scales were definitely tipped in CGI’s favor) did fairly well at the box office, but we can thank international audiences for its real success…and for this sequel, which has a brand new trailer filled with wacky characters and lots of cute wordplay involving “time.”
Zack Snyder Talks ‘Batman vs. Superman’ Surprise Ending, Assembling the Justice League
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice smashed box office records over the weekend, and while we wait for the dust to settle to see just how successful it will become, Zack Snyder has been opening up about a few key moments in the film. The divisive superhero epic offered a few cameos and surprises (and one very surprising cameo), including an ending that left some audience members shocked. It’s that particular plot development that Snyder addresses in his latest interview, which sheds some light on his future Justice League plans. Spoilers ahead!
‘Warcraft’ Trailer: The Horde and the Alliance Prepare for an Epic War
Let’s take a break from Batman and Superman for another epic battle — the Alliance vs. the Horde, aka Warcraft. The international trailer for Duncan Jones’ adaptation of the hit MMORPG has arrived, bringing lots of new footage as the two factions prepare for all-out war, and two races unite to protect their future. Orcs and humans fighting together, mass hysteria, etc.
‘Batman vs. Superman’ Reveals Release Dates for Ultimate and Collector’s Editions
Well, that was certainly a quick turnaround. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice just hit theaters over the weekend, but we already know when you’ll be able to purchase the three-hour Ultimate Edition on Blu-ray. Zack Snyder describes the R-rated, extended version as his “director’s cut,” and in addition to that version, fans with a little extra cash will be able to purchase an upgraded collector’s edition that comes with a statuette.
