‘All Eyez on Me’ Trailer: Tupac Shakur Gets the Biopic Treatment
It’s almost crazy that it’s taken this long for Tupac Shakur to get his very own biopic, but after making a small cameo in Straight Outta Compton, the late, great rapper has finally gotten the feature-length attention he deserves. Today would have been Tupac’s 45th birthday, and to celebrate, the first teaser trailer for All Eyez on Me has arrived.
New Movie Releases: July 2016
The summer movie season continues next month with new Ghostbusters, a big friendly giant, another Purge night and Star Trek Beyond, and that’s not even half of it. Those of you interested in something a little less blockbuster-y should definitely add Mike Birbiglia’s Don’t Think Twice to your must-see list, along with the James Wan-produced horror flick Lights Out. For details on all of these movies and more, read on for our complete guide to July’s new movie releases.
Watch Billy Crystal’s Wonderful Eulogy For Muhammad Ali
Comedian and actor Billy Crystal had been close friends with Muhammad Ali for many years, beginning with his appearance at an event honoring the legendary boxer in 1974. That moment — featured on ABC — helped launch Crystal’s career, and the comedian and boxer remained friends until Ali passed away last week. A special service was held for Ali last night in Louisville, Kentucky, where Crystal spoke at length about his dearly departed friend, delivering a eulogy that was equal parts heartwarming and humorous.
‘Fast 8’ Goes ‘Fury Road’ in Iceland and Tosses Cars Out of a Building in New Set Videos
Each installment of the Fast & Furious franchise finds some way to top its predecessors, whether it’s dropping cars out of planes or driving them in, through or across buildings. The development meetings for these movies must be filled with all kinds of crazy ideas, and you can see two of those concepts play out in a couple of new videos from the set of Fast 8. If you were wondering when we might see Fast & Furious on ice, that time is now (or next spring, when the film hits theaters).
‘The Fundamentals of Caring’ Trailer: Paul Rudd Takes You to America’s Lamest Landmarks
Paul Rudd can make just about anything better, including this underwhelming trailer for Netflix’s latest original film, The Fundamentals of Caring. The impossibly charming and seemingly ageless (and possibly immortal?) actor teams up with Submarine star Craig Roberts for an unexpected buddy road trip dramedy, picking up a pregnant Selena Gomez and a Slim Jim along the way.
Andy Samberg Uses a Banana as a Telephone in NSFW ‘Popstar’ Music Video
If you’re a fan of The Lonely Island, then you’re probably pretty stoked for Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, which features a whole soundtrack full of new songs from the musical comedy trio. Leading up to the film’s release next week, we’ve already seen a few music videos featuring Andy Samberg’s fictional alter ego Conner4Real — including an amazing Bin Laden-themed video that debuted on SNL. Universal has released yet another obviously NSFW music video from Popstar, this time with a little freestyle action.
‘Clown’ Trailer: The Director of ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Exploits a Common Fear
Back before he made Cop Car and landed the highly-coveted Spider-Man: Homecoming directing gig, Jon Watts made a little horror film called Clown. The twisted result of a collaboration between Watts and Christopher D. Ford, Clown tells the story of a man whose life is torturously taken over by a seemingly innocuous clown suit that turns out to be far more than a mere costume.
‘Collide’ Trailer: Nicholas Hoult Goes For a Drive to Save Felicity Jones
As anyone who has watched a fair amount of movies can tell you, it’s a bad idea to mess with Anthony Hopkins. But that’s exactly what Nicholas Hoult does — however unwittingly — in the trailer for Collide, a new thriller that puts the Fury Road star back behind the wheel, this time to save the woman he loves, played by Felicity Jones. That’s perfectly fine, but the real attraction here is Ben Kingsley and whatever the hell he’s wearing.
Netflix to Officially Begin Streaming New Disney Films in September
Way back in 2012 (or at least it feels way back), Netflix and Disney struck a deal for all of Disney’s movies — including Marvel, Pixar and Lucasfilm — to stream exclusively on Netflix Instant. According to the terms of their agreement, the deal wouldn’t kick in until 2016, which just so happens to be the year in which we are currently living. As announced today, Netflix will officially begin streaming Disney films in September, but that doesn’t mean the studio’s entire library will magically appear in your Instant browser.
‘The Blackout Experiments’ Trailer: This Haunted House May Be Too Extreme For Some
The Blackout Experiments sounds like it could be a fictional horror film, but it’s not: Rich Fox’s new documentary takes you inside Blackout, an extreme, adults-only haunted house experience that boasts locations in New York and Los Angeles. As you can see in the official trailer, it’s more of a trauma house than a haunted house, and it’s definitely not for the faint of heart.
New DVD and Blu-ray Releases: June 2016
Whether you’re looking to rent or own, there’s plenty of great stuff hitting DVD and Blu-ray next month. For those in need of genre thrills, 10 Cloverfield Lane and Midnight Special are also hitting shelves next month. For all those titles and more, dig into our guide to June’s new DVD and Blu-ray releases.
‘Star Trek Beyond’ Trailer: The Enterprise Faces Its Boldest Threat Yet
If you weren’t particularly sold by the first trailer for Star Trek Beyond, then you may find the latest preview for Justin Lin’s sequel far more persuasive. It has a bit of everything: emotion, drama, epic intergalactic action, and Idris Elba as a menacing new villain unlike any the crew of the Enterprise has faced before. One thing is clear: this isn’t your average Trek mission.
