Recent wildfires in Australia are wreaking havoc on the Koala population. The fires are causing burns on their paws as they try to escape. The Koalas are clinging to trees to escape the fires but the trees they are clinging to are also burning. There is no place to go so they continue to hold on and this is causing severe burns to their paws.

The International Fund for Animal Welfare is asking for help from the public, especially if you can sew. The mittens are simple to make though so you don't have to have a lot of skill. With healing taking up to a year, the Koalas need protective cotton mittens to help keep in place burn creams and bandages.

The organization already has over 500 pledges to help make the mittens. There is a special pattern that is needed, but if you think you can help you can contact the IFAW through their website for more information.
