Every once in a while, a contestant comes on American Idol that has me thinking they've got a chance to do something special with their talent. I thought that when I saw a 15-year old kid covering a 40-year old Rolling Stones song, and making it cool.

Aside from his classic Gibson acoustic guitar, Briston Maroney didn't look like much as he stepped up to the AI audition stage. He was polite, nervous and looked like a nerd. Then he played and sang a tough song, 'You Can't Always Get What You Want' by the Stones. And he did it in such a unique way, all three judges immediately perked up. Check it out for yourself:

I'm terrible at predicting the outcome of these TV talent contests, but at least I'll have a rooting interest in this season's American Idol. It will be interesting to see what Maroney comes up with next.
