Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spent plenty of time crafting a reveal that its enigmatic “Skye” was in fact the Daisy “Quake” Johnson of Marvel Comics, so could a similar revelation arise for Grant Ward, its other most transformed creation? Simmons herself, Elizabeth Henstridge, may accidentally have spilled the beans on a new Marvel identity for Ward, who wasn’t looking so hot in the first trailer.

Take this with a grain of salt for now, as we don’t yet know for sure what the “Maveth” creature inhabiting Ward’s body as of the 2015 finale is all about, but Henstridge gave an interesting answer at Wizard World Portland (via ComicBook) recently. In discussing the struggles her character has faced, Henstridge was heard to say:

…and now Ward is Hive and takes on the memories of people he’s killed, so that’s going to have some interesting situations.

In comics, Hive was created as a Hydra experiment (close enough with the show’s ancient, Inhuman Hydra-worshiped evil), made up of parasites that infected a human host, specifically a nameless former Hydra agent. One imagines that Ward’s version could follow the books in infecting others to control them, but a monstrous tentacle form might be off the table, at least for now.

Hive won’t be the only Marvel-ous name surfacing when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. resumes Season 3 on March 8 either, as Brian Patrick Wade will reprise his role as Marvel’s Absorbing Man, soon to be followed by Adrian Pasdar’s General Glenn Talbot.

Well find out more about Zombie Ward’s Marvel associations when Season 3 returns, but might such a monstrous twist prove Ward’s final form?
