These are facts about the original carton special, not the Jim Carrey live action version.

  1. The man who sang the famous song is named Thurl Ravenscroft. You can not only hear him throughout Disneyland and Disney World, but you might also remember him as Tony the Tiger.
  2. The original Grinch was not green. He was actually black and white, with red and pink splotches.
  3. The TV director Chuck Jones decided to make the Grinch green, which was inspired by several ugly rental cars he had driven.
  4. The narrator was none other than the original Frankenstein's monster, Boris Karloff.
  5. Max the dog had a smaller role in the book but Chuck Jones made him a major character because he felt Max represented the audience, and he was the one you wanted to rescue.
  6. For many years the line "you're a rotter, Mr. Grinch" was censored because it was considered too vulgar.
  7. Judy Foray, the voice of Cindy Lou Who was also the voice of Rocky the Squirrel and Natasha Fatale from Rocky and Bullwinkle.
