3 Doors Down, Camp Freddy Represent Rock at 2012 Republican National Convention

3 Doors Down
Mary Ouellette,
A lot of rockers may lean to the left, but there are still some who either fully support the right side of politics or at least are willing to play a major event like the Republican National Convention. On the rock side, the big “get” is 3 Doors Down, who will make their way to Tampa this week to perform as part of the ramp up to the announcement of the Republican ticket.

Singer Brad Arnold says, “We are honored to be asked to play the RNC and are excited about our performance. We consider it a privilege.” During the show, the group will exclusively premiere their new song ‘One Light.’ The band is set to perform Tuesday night (Aug. 28).

Also in town for the Republican National Convention will be the all-star covers band, Camp Freddy, which consists of singer/host Donovan Leitch, guitarists Dave Navarro and Billy Morrison, bassist Chris Chaney and drummer Matt Sorum. The group is known for playing cover songs and filling their performances with surprise guests. The Tampa Bay Times reports that the band will headline a private reception at Curtis Hixon Park’s 1 OAK nightclub on night one of the Republican National Convention Monday (Aug. 27), with proceeds from the show benefitting the Wounded Warriors Family Support nonprofit organization.

Others acts of note who’ve signed on to play in Tampa for the Republican National Convention include Lynyrd Skynyrd and Oak Ridge Boys (Aug. 27), Night Ranger‘s Jack Blades and Alabama’s Randy Owen (Aug. 28), former American Idol competitor Danny Gokey (Aug. 29), and American Idol champ Taylor Hicks and gospel favorite BeBe Winans (Aug. 30).
